MEETING: Toronto Monthly Meeting
DATE: Wed., Nov. 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
NEW LOCATION (this month only): North York Central Library, 5120 Yonge Street, north of Sheppard. The meeting will begin on the lower concourse level, followed by a tour on the main floor.
SPEAKERS: Join us for this very special meeting. Our speakers are Leigh Turina, librarian for the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities, and Mariella Bertelli, children's librarian, storyteller, and coordinator of Silent Books: Final Destination Lampedusa, the touring collection of wordless books from the library IBBY Italia has created on Lampedusa, the Italian island that has received waves of refugees from Africa and the Middle East.
Leigh and Mariella will talk about these two IBBY initiatives and give us a personal tour of these two wonderful and important collections, one permanently housed at the North York Central Library and the other currently showcased there as part of a Canadian national tour.
In honour of the Silent Books exhibit, there will be an exhibit of original art by Sydney Smith from Sidewalk Flowers, winner of this year's Governor General's Award.
