Bio
My castle-hopping trips across Wales resulted in my award-winning YA historical fantasy series Last of the Gifted, Spirit Sight (Book 1) and Water Sight (Book 2). This year, my new picture book Garden Song (Lilac Arch) joins my 40+ children's books with such publishers as Scholastic Education, Amicus, Lerner/ Lightning Bolt, Crabtree, and others. My short stories and poetry appear in such literary magazines as subTerrain, Room, and Transition, and my nonfiction articles appear in print and online. My degrees include a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, along with a Master of Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. My experience includes being Virtual Writer-in-Residence for the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild (SWG), instructor for the Sage Hill Teen Writing Workshop, and mentor for CANSCAIP, SWG, and TWUC. For the past four years, I've edited the chapbook of newcomer stories, "Opening Doors Through Stories" (SWG and Regina Open Door Society). As well, I have been editor for the literary magazines Spring and Windscript, and I've led writing workshops for Live Arts as well as schools, libraries, and associations across the region. This year I'll give my first international workshop for the Historical Novel Society in Ireland. My experience includes being a library programmer for preschool and school-aged programs, and teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL), journalism, and theatre. In my spare time, I experiment in gardening, medieval cooking, and cat whispering.
