Bio
Philippa Dowding is a Governor General's Literary Award-winning children's author, a poet, and musician based in Toronto.
Her book FIREFLY (DCB, 2021) won both the Governor General's Literary Award (Young People's Literature, Text), and the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award, and received over a dozen literary shortlist nominations and commendations. Film rights have also been optioned.
Philippa has published fourteen children's books to date (15th coming this year), many of them award-winners as well. She has been a writer since she read "Charlotte's Web" at age nine, and enjoys visiting schools and talking to children about writing, reading, and inspiring the next generation of Canadian story tellers. She has worked in the publishing industry as a copywriter for magazines, publishers, film industry executives, agencies big and small, and many others. As a copywriter, her work won many industry awards and accolades.
Her next book, The Love Song of Mr. Byrd, is coming October 2025, from DCB Young Readers!
Philippa lives in Toronto, where she writes, plays guitar and cello, and walks her local park every day.
