&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span&gt;2013 BC Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The West Coast Book Prize Society is proud to recognize Sarah Ellis as a recipient of the 10th annual Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence. This prize was established in 2003 to recognize British Columbia writers who have contributed to the development of literary excellence in the province. The recipient receives a cash award of $5,000 and a commemorative certificate.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span&gt;Shortlist for the 2013 Alberta Literary Awards&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The &lt;a href="http://www.sciencewriters.ca" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;span style="color:blue"&gt;Canadian Science Writers’ Association&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; offers two $1000 annual book awards to honour outstanding contributions to science writing – one intended for children/middle grade readers and one for the general public. The youth book winner is &lt;i&gt;&lt;span&gt;The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt; by Helaine Becker and Willow Dawson (illus.), published by Kids Can Press. Entries were judged on the basis of initiative, originality, scientific accuracy, clarity of interpretation and value in promoting a better understanding of science by the public.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>Women's Words invites submissions for anthology celebrating its 20th anniversary</title>
      <description>&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Women’s Words: Summer Writing Week&lt;/b&gt; commemorates its &lt;b&gt;20th anniversary&lt;/b&gt; this year. Author Rachel Hartman took home the William C. Morris Award for her debut YA fantasy novel, &lt;i&gt;Seraphina&lt;/i&gt; (Doubleday). The William C. Morris Award&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span class="st"&gt;&lt;span&gt;honors a debut book published by a first-time author writing for teens.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span&gt;YALSA presents the Best Fiction for Young Adults at ALA’s Midwinter Meeting&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Each year, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) presents the Best Fiction for Young Adults list. &lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Canadian novelist and short-story writer Caroline Adderson has been long-listed for the world’s richest short-story prize, the £30,000 ($47,000) Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award. There are 16 stories nominated, and the eligibility criterion for the prize is that the author must have been published, either in book or magazine form, in the United Kingdom or Ireland. The story that Adderson submitted, called &lt;i&gt;Erection Man&lt;/i&gt;, has not been published. The short list, of six, will be announced in a month – each of these finalists will win £1,000 ($1,600). The winner will be announced in Oxford on March 22.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span&gt;Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

  Applications are now being accepted for a &lt;b&gt;Writer in Residence at Kingston Frontenac Public Library from January through June 2014&lt;/b&gt;. This is a six-month contract where the Writer in Residence spends 40 percent of his or her time on library projects and 60 percent on his or her own writing. The Writer in Residence will work with emerging writers in the community in workshops, one-to-one consultations, and other programs in Kingston and Frontenac County. For example, the selected applicant will conduct writing workshops with various groups from the community, including teens and existing writing circles, public readings, evaluation of manuscripts, online promotion of the program.&amp;nbsp;

  Kingston, with its unique heritage and personality, is the major population centre of eastern Ontario.       <description>As a celebration of its 35th anniversary, CANSCAIP announces its first ever Creator-in-Residence program. From January 15 to May 15, 2013, CANSCAIP will have not one, but two, Creators-in-Residence. Please join us in welcoming BC illustrator &lt;b&gt;Dianna Bonder&lt;/b&gt; and Ontario author &lt;b&gt;Kathy Stinson&lt;/b&gt; as our 2013 CANSCAIP Creators-in-Residence.&lt;br&gt;

The purpose of this program is to encourage exchanges between our Creator-in-Residence and the CANSCAIP community across Canada, and to foster mentorship of new and emerging authors and illustrators who are both Members and Friends of CANSCAIP.
